2013 FRC Challenge - Ultimate Ascent

Ultimate Ascent is played by two competing alliances on a flat, 27 x 54 foot field. Each Alliance consists of three robots, and they compete to score as many discs into their goals as they can during a two (2)-minute and fifteen (15)-second match. The higher the goal in which the disc is scored, the more points the alliance receives.

The Objective

The objective of Ultimate Ascent is to shoot Frisbee's through four goals positioned at your end of the field. The Frisbee's have a diameter of 11 inches, a height of 1.4 inches, and a weight of 180 grams and may be shot at close or far range.

Autonomous Period

During the autonomous period, robots are given a maximum of three disks each and may shoot them through the goals. Robots may use the reflective tape on the goals to adjust properly for shots. The robot may also be pre-programmed with movements to score from a variety of positions. Each goal made here receives double points.

Teleoperated Period

During the teleop period, the robots must shoot the balls through the goals from anywhere on the field. Of the goals, one is high (104 1/8 in.), two are in the middle (88 5/8 in.) and one is low (19 in.) off the ground. The higher the goal, the more points are earned. However, there is also a fifth goal you can score in located at the top of the pyramid, at no higher than 120 inches.

Each robot may only have four disks at a time, or the alliance will be penalized. Although opposing robots may attempt to block robots, the alliance feeder station (or the pyramid while attempting to climb) is a safe zone where robots cannot be touched by the opposing alliance.

End Game

At the end of the match, robots may attempt to climb their pyramid located in their side of the field for extra points. Each rung of the pyramid represents a border for different point counts, however robots may only touch two zones at any one time.

Scoring

  • Three points are awarded for the high goal.
  • Two points are awarded for the mid goals.
  • One point is awarded for the low goal.
  • Five points are awarded for the pyramid goal.
  • Points are doubled in Autonomous mode. (0 awarded for the pyramid.)
  • The low zone on the pyramid awards ten points.
  • The mid zone on the pyramid awards twenty points.
  • The high zone on the pyramid awards thirty points.
